Camping in the desert was colder than I expected.
After we ventured an hour outside of Doha, we set up our tents, inflated our air mattresses, and built and lit the campfire. Of the dozens of snacks we brought—from chips to candy—the s’mores were what I craved the most.
As I roasted my marshmallow over the fire, the cool wind blew through the desert.
After adding the graham crackers and chocolate, I bit into the gooey creation and was taken back to Fourth of July celebrations at Clear Creek Lake, my home.
It’s these simple things, these cozy fires in middle-of-nowhere places, that are timeless.
